Hello. It has been a long time ever since the previous blog. Now that we are in another lockdown, these might be the books you might be interested in reading. As I told all of you in the previous blog I am suggesting some few non-fictional-positivity-related books that are interesting enough to read. You guys will sure enjoy some of these books, honestly I am not really a fan of non-fiction as they are mostly long-written memoirs talking about one’s life in entire detail with no twists, thrills, adventures etc. Although yes the fact is true that not all non-fictions are memoirs and not all are actually boring for me, these are some books that truly changed my life and my life’s perspectives
- The Audacity of Hope: Barack Obama
The audacity of hope written by Barack Obama was published before he became President, he wrote it when he was a US Senator. In this book he talks about how the spiritual and political beliefs and how Obama wants to see America along with his beliefs of the American dream. The one thing that I do admire is that Obama and I agree on the audacity to hope and empower the power of visualization, I may not be a politician, a lawyer and a senator, nor the most amazing president (basically I am not Barry Obama) but this book gave me the power to hope to visualize and achieve your goals and to never give up, because there always will be a room for hope, its this one amazing book that has inspired me and my motivation, if I ever am feeling bad about something then the learnings from this book about always visualizing my goal, as well as to not hesitate in dreaming big and winning big, if I could ever meet Barack Obama in my wildest of dreams that come true, the first thing I will do is thank him for writing this book, there are many people out there who tend to give up quickly, especially my current generation. I strongly recommend everyone to read this book to keep you alive like a warrior and to work everyday to achieve those dreams into goals coming true, my current generation should read this book because you should never give up, President Obama wrote this book back in the 2006, 2 years prior he was President, in a matter of 2-3 years he was elected president, which means he carried the fire of his hope inside him for 2 more years knowing that he would be president and this goal of his would come true and not giving up within those 2 years. Fun fact me and Obama turn out to have the same MBTI personality type: ENFJ (Extroverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging)
2. Becoming: Michelle Obama
Becoming written by Michelle Obama was released after she was a former First Lady, in this book Michelle Obama talks about how she got her own voice and how she could speak up to issues as a mother, wife, woman and a human being. Including on how she could handle and transition with the roles of a wife, the First Lady, a mother, a lawyer and a person. The book talks about her entire family and how did she grow up in Chicago, including how she met Barack Obama as well as giving us a sneak peak about the Obama family from the Obama kids to the Obama dogs and the Obama family being there for each other as well. Michelle Obama is also an amazing author I must say as it is her first book. She is another one true strong woman who was happily married to Barack Obama and when he took over as president how she as a person could not be overshadowed by him and learnt how to speak up with her own voice, my learnings from this book is to be determined and not being listened at by the naysayers in your life, just focus on your goal and the things that make you happy. I am glad that I read this book right now as it is helping me on how to become a great and a better human being by being humble, hard working and determined, two quotes in this book that I really like is “If you don’t get out there and define yourself, you’ll be quickly and inaccurately defined by others” and another quote that totally suits the concept of changing the world: “Do we settle for the world as it is, or do we work for the world as it should be?” these two quotes really motivate me everyday into working hard to achieve what I want, again a recommended read.
Man’s Search For Meaning: Viktor Frankl is the experience of how Viktor learnt to stay and survive when he was abducted at the Auschwitz camp. a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps during World War II, and describing his psychotherapeutic method, which involved identifying a purpose in life to feel positive about, and then the immerse imagining that outcome. There are people who don’t believe in ‘finding’ their own purpose which I pretty much agree with the statement or the word finding our purpose, because purpose is not a road that will lead you to your destiny. Your purpose is your true own future self whom you have to identify with and keep that person alive inside of you. Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning provides a vivid account of an individual’s experience as a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp. The book focuses on love, hope, responsibility, inner freedom, and the beauty to be found in both nature and art as means that help one endure and overcome harrowing experiences That is probably one thing that also kept Frankl alive inside that camp for so many days, the takeaway from this book is to live every moment today and live everyday as if it is your last which means that learn how to enjoy every moment of life and do what I want to do, I would strongly recommend this book to everyone. The book Man’s Search For Meaning pretty much has helped us in the pandemic as well, teaching us how to survive each day with hope to fulfil my purpose. I would again strongly recommend this book to all of you all, probably as a guide on how to survive a pandemic starting with your purpose and working on it.
Ikigai Ikigai (生き甲斐, “a reason for being”) is a Japanese concept referring to having a direction or purpose in life, providing a sense of fulfillment to a person, and towards which they may take actions, giving them satisfaction and a sense of meaning. Again this book does not focus towards the ‘finding’ of purpose but the concept of creating and having your own purpose to make your life happy and satisfied, in that particular book there is a mind map given that talks about how you can find your own purpose and how can you find happiness in life. The mind map has these questions:
- What do you love?
- What can you be paid for?
- What does the world want?
- What are you good at?
Once you answer these questions and you have the answer coming from you answering them more than just one line then it can be a recipe to a happy life. I would again recommend this book to people especially the ones who don’t know what to do with life or are stuck in a phase where they don’t know what to do and are confused. I would recommend them this book which has a recipe to a purpose in life. There has to be a reason why you wake up in the morning for and go to bed for, the reason for your life that keeps you alive is what this book is all about, there are stories of many famous people inside this book who did not know what they were going to do, but they directly or indirectly applied the concept of Ikigai to find the pursuit of happiness in life. Another strong recommendation for this book as well, especially for teenagers or college-going students, as well as adults too.
